recommend books I have personally read, products I
have used
successfully, and websites I know to be valuable to a
conscientous horse owner. As we all continue in our learning
and
pursuit of understanding horses and their needs, I am certain this list
will grow.

Horses Never Lie, by Mark Rashid.
This book is as entertaining as it is insightful. Mark is surprisingly
intuitive. I have read this book numerous times and always learn
something new from it. It is a favorite of mine.

The Soul of a Horse, by Joe Camp. Joe details his
experiences with his horses, and evolving with them from traditional
horsekeeping practices to natural principles and practices. Joe also
tells the story of a wild horse, as it could have happened. This is as
informative as it is entertaining.
Horses
Talking: How to share Healing Messages with the Horses in your life,
by Margrit Coates.
This is the sequel to Healing for Horses. Coates is a leading animal
healer and will tell you how to interact with horses so that you can
sense what they are saying, and help solve their problems. Horses offer
powerful messages which can have a profound effect on your
understanding not only of them, but of yourself and your relationships
with other people. Full of guidance, this book also includes incredible
case studies.
Healing
for Horses: The Essential Guide to Using Hands-on
Healing Energy with Horses, by Margrit Coates.
Learn how to lay your hands on a horse to channel comforting, healing
energy. Anyone can do this. This is an easy to read guide on energy,
how it works, and how to do energy healing with horses. She has
included examples and stories of horses she has worked with. This is an
inspiring read written by an amazing woman.
Natural
Horse Care, by Pat Coleby.
Proper horse care begins with good nutrition practices. Learn about
vitamins and minerals, basic feeding practices,common nutrient
deficiencies and ailments, non-invasive and natural remedies and horse
conditioning.
Making
Natural Hoofcare Work For You, by Pete Ramey.
World-renowned Hoof Rehabilitation Specialist, Author and Practitioner,
Pete Ramey wrote this book for horse owners, veterinarians, farriers
and anyone who is interested about Natural Hoofcare. This is an
easy-to-read, user friendly book, which discusses the model for the
Natural trim - the wild horse - and compares that to the domestic horse
hoof. Pete details a basic natural trim, maintenance trimming,
rehabilitation trimming and discusses lifestyle and natural
horsekeeping. Pete has worked extensively and with great success on

Paddock
Paradise: A Guide to Natural Horse Boarding,
by Jaime Jackson. The premise of Paddock Paradise is to stimulate
horses to behave and move more according to their instincts and nature.
This is the key to having mentally, emotionally, and physically
healthier horses. This book details an idea for set up which includes a
"track system" for encouraging more movement and herd behavior. It
includes a template for designing your paddock, sample paddocks, and
hundreds of ideas.

Owner's Guide to Natural Hoof Care, by Jaime Jackson.
The barefoot alternative to shoeing. Jaime pioneered the movement
toward natural hoof care for domestic horses after discovering the
"perfect foot" on that of a mustang recently taken off the rangelands
and adopted by one of his clients. Jaime began to research wild horses
and their hooves for a decade before adapting his trimming skills to
the task of rendering naturally shaped hooves based on the wild model.
This book covers everything, from the actual trim to diet, riding,
booting, boarding and of course...describing what the perfectly natural
hoof looks like.

by Jaime Jackson. My personal favorite of Jaime's books, I wish I had a
bunch to just give away. This small red treasure will give you hope and
guidance if your horse is foundered, and if your horse is not foundered
- this book will tell you how to prevent it from ever occurring. "In

Equine Structural Integration: Myofascial Release Manual,
by Jim Pascucci. Pascucci guides you through the process of Myofascial
Release with over 100 illustrations, and easy to understand techniques.
MFR will improve the freedom of movement, balance and suppleness in
your horse and is a valuable tool for therapy.

Reiki: A Torch in Daylight, by Karyn K Mitchell, N.D, Ph.D.
This is a comprehensive beginners guide to Reiki. Mitchell presents an
spiritual Reiki, the path to empowerment, and enlightenment. The word
"Reiki" means Spirit Taking Breath. Rei means Universal Life Force,
Spirit, Divine, Sacred....and Ki is the crucial indicator of life.
Without Ki, life does not exist.

Horse Anatomy: A Coloring Atlas,
by Robert A Kainer and Thomas O. McCracken. This is a very fun way to
learn horse anatomy in depth! If you like to color, and you love
horses, which I assume, then this book is for you.
The
Horse In Motion,
by Sarah Pilliner, Samantha Elmhurst and Zoe Davies. This book examines
an aspect of the horse's performance: how the horse moves, and how its
anatomy helps or hinders its athletic ability. All the gaits are
examined, and detailed anatomical drawings show the systems of support
and movement. Tips are given on ways in which the life of the horse can
be made easier.

Atlas of Clinical Equine Anatomy and Common Disorders of the Horse,
Volume One, by Ronald J Riegel DVM and Susan E Hakola, B.S,
R.N., C.M.I
This is designed to provide a comprehensive yet easy to follow review
of anatomy and common disorders. Volume one is Musculoskeletal Anatomy
and Lameness Disorders. Contains over 1250 full color labelled
illustrations.
